March 31st - Every Thought
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (NKJV)
Breaking the chains of vices, addiction and destructive thinking patterns is not easy. The flesh of humanity is an easy target for the powers of darkness as "we" are susceptible to both the deception and "hooks" of the Enemy by our very nature. Beyond the lies of the Enemy we are easily led astray by our own desires and rationalization.
What is rationalization? Rationalization is defined as "The action of attempting to explain or justify behavior or an attitude with logical reasons, even if these are not appropriate." In other words, we make EXCUSES for our behavior--and we do the things that we want to do. Since we are not the bastion of wisdom, leaning on our own understanding to justify "bad" behavior is complete foolishness.
There is a reality that we need to embrace; the fight is on and the roaring lion that pursues us is on the job. In order to defeat this foe we need real wisdom and reasoning that is not carnal; and so, we look to God and His Word! This means that in order to fight effectively we MUST BE Bible-centric thinking people.
Once we know the how, what and why of our faith; we must bring our thinking patterns into submission to what we
believe and know to be true. When the Enemy drops a bomb of sensuality into our thinking through the window of the eye; we must look away and take the thought captive before it takes root. When we hear the vain philosophies of the new atheists; we must take the thought captive and reject it before we ponder the merit. Merit??? Don't forget that the Serpent in the Garden of Eden deceived Eve with half-truths. The most effective lie is one that is sold by coming packaged with a hint of truth.
We must measure every idea, thought and argument against the truth of God's Word. If it doesn't measure up to God's standard, we must reject it outright and expose it. As Believers we are soldiers of God's light and truth.
Author's Note: There are forces within and without the Church bent on our destruction. If we are led astray by secular thinking or false doctrine we will cease to be a part of the Church that prevails against the powers of darkness. We must contend for the faith and that starts by taking captive every thought. RJD
